Protecting Bearings From Corrosion<\/p>\n

In a humid environment, condensate can form in rolling element<\/p>\n

bearings and cause corrosion, leading to a reduction of the<\/p>\n

bearing life. The condensed moisture&apos;s effect can be reduced by<\/p>\n

carefully choosing the grease lubricant. Greases thickened with<\/p>\n

sodium soap will absorb (emulsify) large quantities of water,<\/p>\n

but may, however, soften it to such an extent that the grease<\/p>\n

flows out of the bearing.<\/p>\n

Lithium soap greases do not emulsify water, but with suitable<\/p>\n

additives can provide good protection against corrosion. There<\/p>\n

are also a number of greases available containing synthetic<\/p>\n

thickeners that offer excellent protection against corrosion,<\/p>\n

prolonging the bearing life.<\/p>\n
