Following 100 miles of testing in the calmer-than-normal Gulf of Mexico on Saturday, the conditions for Sunday\u2019s race were much rougher. <\/p>\n<p>When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL got stuck in traffic going into the first turn, allowing the new Stihl 388 boat to take the early lead before engaging in a close deck-to-deck battle with Team AMSOIL. Team AMSOIL caught and passed Team Stihl and extended its lead to about 11 seconds before being slowed by lapped traffic. While Team Stihl came within a boat length heading into the final outside turn, Team AMSOIL hit a large rogue wave which caused the boat to hook violently and end up on the wrong side of the turn buoy. Team AMSOIL was then forced to go back and \u201cmake up\u201d the turn, allowing Team Stihl to cross the finish line first.
