Why You Need Advanced Driving Expertise

By Kathy Jenkins

When you have driven for any length of time, you might think of yourself as being a good driver. When you have been a motorist for some time it is hard to imagine a time when you could not drive and much of what you do on the road is automatic. This may include several bad habits which you may not be conscious of until it is too late. Additionally, the fact that most of what we do is automatic has its own hidden dangers. You may have experienced times when you were driving and became aware you don’t remember actually driving. It is important that you develop enhanced driving skills so that you can be in control of the driving situation.

The first type of ability that is essential in keeping you safe on the road is the ability to drive in different conditions. The conditions derive from the weather as well as how well the road is kept. When the weather turns bad on you, like snow or thick fog, it can become very stressful for you if you are not used to it. An illustration of this an enhanced driving skill would be your ability to do the right thing if your car suddenly went into a skid. Are you aware, without thinking, what method to steer your car if you abruptly started to skid. You and your family can be saved if you learned how to overcome skids.

The complications of dealing with an unpredicted situation on the road is your initial reaction. A second danger is the fact that you begin to stress and panic and this is one of the reasons you need to learn how to deal with a car that encounters ice or drives through flood water for example. If it’s possible to master these skills, the reactions are going to be automatic for you. Facts about the best way to deal with unsafe situations can be found on the internet but you are better off going to a class or trainer to teach you first hand on how it is done.

Driving defensively can be another driving proficiency that is regarded as advanced. In this case, you tend to be very aware of the other drivers so that you are able to avoid any potential mistakes made by them. For instance, people might cross lanes without flipping on their blinkers or they speed up and overtake in the wrong spot. How you position yourself on the street, how you use your mirrors and being aware of blind spots are examples of being defensive.

You can easily imagine that having advanced driving skills is about showing off and learning how to drive fast. However, enhanced driving skills are related to driving safely and driving confidently.
