Great Cars For Young Drivers

Young drivers are somewhat limited on the choices of cars available to them. Unfortunately, decisions are often heavily influenced by budgeting factors and of course the dreaded cost of insurance. This leads nearly all new drivers to the used car market where picking up an affordable motor is a lot more likely, and also the cost of insurance can be driven down considerably. We’ve compiled this list to go through a few of our top cars for young drivers. Our decisions have been based on price, economical driving and also the fun factor. These don’t cover all the aspects, but we believe these are the key ingredients when it comes to choosing a great car for any young driver.

The Ford Focus

The Ford focus is a great small to medium sized car and comes in a large variety of models. Being a relatively small car, the fuel economy is great with some small yet pokey engines available. The used car market is full of some really good examples, and if you’re willing to get a slightly older car a bargain can easily be had. If you want something a bit more exciting, the Focus RS should be right up your street. The Ford Focus RS has received constant praise since it was introduced and the performance far outweighs its relatively low asking price. However, for a new driver the insurance is probably going to set you back a little on the RS.

The Volkswagen Polo

Volkswagen have long been known for superior build quality, and the polo finds itself in this list due to it’s neat little size and great ability for both town and motorway driving. If you’re looking for something cheap to run, this car is well worth a little bit of thought. The Polo has been around for quite some time and there is plenty of choice when it comes to finding a second hand bargain. If you want the best deal on insurance, this car should work out ok for you if you buy and older car with one of the smaller engines.

Peugeot 107

Peugeot have always been great at producing small nippy cars. Although the Peugeot 107’s and 207’s may well lack some of the aesthetic appeal of other cars listed here, they are really cheap to run and can be picked up for some amazing prices. Even if you’re considering buying a new car, some prices are amazing and you really can save a good amount of money. The 107 is the smallest of the bunch, but still provides ample room for shopping and a bit of luggage and or passengers. You might find motorway journey’s a little challenging, but if they’re not going to be a regular part of your travelling then you needn’t worry.

Ford KA

Perhaps one of the cheapest of the Ford models, the KA has proven really popular with younger drivers in the UK. It’s really cheap to run, cheap to buy and cheap to insure. I would highly recommend this if you’re going to be doing lot’s of town driving and short trips. Despite being a small car, there is actually quite a lot of space inside compared to many other small cars. Well worth a look on the used car market, prices can be really low even for a young vehicle.

The best thing you can do is to have a good look around, check various websites and go and view some cars. Also, make sure you get some insurance quotes in to make sure you don’t get a nasty surprise once your new car is purchased.
