The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reminding boaters who plan to be on the water during July 4 weekend to be smart and stay safe. According to the FWC, inattentiveness of the operator regularly makes a contribution to cruising accidents, and statistics indicate that more than sixty percent of the 79 boating-related deaths confirmed last year were credited to drowning. Become an enlightened, responsible boater by completing the Ship Florida safe cruising course, and make Florida sailing safer and more delightful this summer. At our site (the web site) boaters learn the official boat education content developed for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This safe cruising course lets scholars get their Florida sailing license (or jet ski license) online to comply with Florida law. The new-and-improved Ship Florida course now offers the highest-quality online experience-less text, lots of interactive reviews and practice, and on-the-water videos.

Scholars move quickly through short segments designed for bite-size reading and fast comprehension. Learning is strengthened with interactive animations, and scholars feel just like they are on the water as they study casting off and docking, rescue techniques, the “Circle of Death,” and other boaters safety course subjects. Best of all, Boat Ed has added more than an hour of streaming video with forty five exciting on-the-water action sequences. Produced over a 10-month period at a price of $250,000, Boat Ed’s video was shot with state-of-art hardware (jib arm cameras, specialised camera boats, gyro stabilizers) and pro talent (forty actors / extras, ten camera crew members, and pro ship and PWC operators). Getting a web boaters license hasn’t ever been so fun! Scholars look at the fast cruising safety course (our Internet internet site release press release ) online when it fits their schedule-setting up a free account and logging in or out as they wish.

INSTALLING THE BRACKET ALONGSIDE THE
ALTERNATOR PRODUCES VERY LITTLE VIBRATION.

This Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK23) was installed on my
2004 Chevrolet Suburban Z-71. Using 1/4-inch thick steel, we fabricated
and attached a bracket alongside the alternator to hold the bypass
unit. Both the oil supply and return lines measure five feet and
attach to the filter adapter that threads onto the original equipment
manufacturer oil filter mount. We used 45-degree fittings in order to
more easily route the lines forward and up to the by-pass unit. Plastic
conduit also was installed to protect against heat. System capacity
increased from 6.2 quarts to 10.

The Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK23) was installed on a 2008 Ford Expedition equipped with a 5.4L V8. Since it’s 2WD, there is a lot of room for mounting in front of the axle, behind the front bumper. The kit comes with all the necessary hardware, but I custom made part of the bracket in order to fi t it where I wanted. A spin-on adapter was used to attach the feed and return lines to the engine. Installing the system behind the front bumper requires no more than 18” of hose for either line. The EaO15 Full Flow Filter and EaBP90 By-Pass Filter used sit well above the frame rails and are easy to get to. System capacity increased from seven quarts to almost nine.

AMSOIL INTRODUCES 15,000-Mile Ea Oil Filter

BUY NOW – Buy Amsoil EA Filters

AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters (EaO, Ea15K)

feature advanced full-synthetic Nanofiber technology and rank among the most efficient filters available for the auto/light-truck market. Ea Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 98.7 percent at 15 microns, while competitive filters containing conventional cellulose media range from 40 to 80 percent efficiency at 15 microns. When used in conjunction with AMSOIL eaofiltersynthetic motor oils, AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are guaranteed for extended service life:

• Ea Filters designated with product code Ea15K are recommended for 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal or severe service.

• Ea Filters designated with product code EaO are recommended for 25,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal service or 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in severe service.

Modern engine design trends have resulted in some vehicles that present multiple challenges to filtration engineers, especially those who are focused on delivering extended service life. In order to remain serviceable for an extended period, a filter must ensure adequate capacity while maintaining sufficient efficiency throughout the specified interval. This is often accomplished in part through the use of high efficiency media and a slightly larger can to increase capacity.

Barriers to Extended Service

Vehicle manufacturers are under tremendous pressure to provide fuel efficient vehicles that produce fewer emissions than their predecessors. In fact, government mandates require automakers to meet specific fuel efficiency and emissions benchmarks or face steep monetary penalties. Vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) employ a variety of techniques to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, and nearly all of them negatively impact motor oil and oil filtration.

Smaller Sumps, Smaller Filters, More Contaminants

To meet the demand for greater efficiency, OEMs are offering smaller, more aerodynamic cars. They have also introduced several new engine technologies designed to deliver greater power out of smaller, more fuel-efficient engines, which often rely on turbos or unique fuel injection systems that can increase the amount of contaminants introduced into the oil. As these cars have become smaller, engine compartments have become too tight to use a filter of increased size. This, coupled with the trend toward smaller oil sumps in many of these applications, results in an extremely challenging task for oil filters.

Additional Contaminant Generation

To meet the demand for reduced emissions, OEMs are applying a number of methods, including exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). EGR works by recycling a small amount of spent exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. Some of the side-effects of EGR include less-efficient combustion, increased temperatures and increased acids; all of which add to the oil filter’s workload.

AMSOIL Overcomes Obstacles

For some of these applications extending the service life of the oil filter would seem impossible. Smaller sump sizes, some historically sludgy engines and smaller filter sizes, combined with increased contaminants in the engine oil, present a serious challenge to filtration engineers. AMSOIL has overcome all those obstacles with its introduction of 15,000-mile Ea Oil Filters (EA15K). There are 11 15,000-mile Ea Filters in all, including some that were previously available as 25,000-mile filters. While AMSOIL has had no issues with these filters, the engine technologies used in the vehicles to which they apply are simply too demanding on an oil filter to continue offering 25,000-mile intervals. Also included in the group of 15,000- mile Ea Oil Filters are a number of filters (EA15K09, EA15K10, EA15K13) that were either discontinued or available only at OEM-recommended intervals due to the engine design issues outlined in AMSOIL Technical Service Bulletins FL-2009-05-01 and FL-2010-04-01.

15,000-Mile Ea Oil Filter Notes

Ea Oil Filters recommended for 15,000-mile service intervals are designated by the product code EA15K. These filters have been redesigned, but still feature the same premium Nanofiber synthetic media as their 25,000-mile counterparts. In addition to some slight packaging modifications, AMSOIL has identified existing Ea Oil Filters moving from 25,000- to 15,000-mile intervals by placing stickers on the boxes.

Product Description
The Marine Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK18) offers easily accessible remote mounting capability for a full-flow spin-on oil filter and a spin-on by-pass oil filter. This unique combination of both full-flow and by-pass filtration on a single mounting manifold is the only system of this kind designed specifically for marine applications.

Improved Performance
The effects of marine engines running predominantly at or near full throttle after extended periods of non-activity include high operating temperatures and increased potential for wear on engine components. Dual remote filtration is a highly efficient filtering process capable of removing the vast majority of particles in the 5-20 micron range; those that cause the most wear. Dual remote filtration also has the ability to effectively remove particles down to one micron in size. The AMSOIL Marine Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK18) offers a clear advantage by providing better oil filtration, increased oil capacity and longer oil and filter life.

Reduces Heat
The BMK18 requires a one- to two-quart oil volume increase, offering increased oil cooling capabilities. The additional hoses, fittings, filters and aluminum mount assemblies also allow the engine oil to dissipate heat more efficiently as it passes through the filtration system, extending the service life of both the engine and the engine oil..

Outstanding Durability
The Marine Dual Remote Filtration System is designed to be used in harsh marine environments. The hose fittings are coated with a 3 ml layer of Alumiplate™ and 1 ml of zinc and yellow chromate. This Alumiplate coating is 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard zinc and yellow chromate plated fittings. While standard hydraulic fittings typically survive 96 hours in the grueling ASTM B-117 Salt Spray Test, the Alumiplate-coated AMSOIL Marine By-Pass System fittings lasted over 1,000 hours. In addition, the fasteners and mounting bracket are stainless steel and the hoses are U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Fewer Oil Changes
Depending on the boat owner’s hours of use, the improved filtration of the Marine Dual Remote System, along with the use of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants, could completely eliminate oil and filter changes during a typical boating season. With marine engines located in a relatively confined and remote space within the watercraft, ease of filter access and reduced oil spillage are also significant benefits of the BMK18.

Applications
A large number of marine diesel engines have by-pass oil filtration systems installed by the engine manufacturer. Until now, however, this technology has not been available to smaller pleasure boats and light commercial marine applications. The AMSOIL Marine Dual Remote Filtration System was specifically designed for recreational and commercial marine applications that use inboard or inboard/outboard stern drive engines.

The BMK18 is packaged in kit form, which includes the Dual filter mount, mounting hardware, hoses, hose fittings, component parts and installation instructions. In addition, adapter kits of four different sizes enable the BMK18 to be installed on a wide variety of recreational and light commercial marine gasoline-fueled engines, including those manufactured by Chris Craft, Chrysler, Crusader, Evinrude, Johnson, Gray Marine, Mercruiser, OMC, Pleasurecraft, Universal, Volvo Penta and Westerbeke.

The BMK18 kit offers a new heavy-duty, machined aluminum adapter and retaining nut that fits on the existing oil filter mount. Each adapter kit is application specific and must be ordered separately. Consult the Marine Dual Remote Application Guide (G2051) or www.amsoil.com for specific applications. Adapter kits are available for the most popular filter thread sizes. When ordering the BMK18, request one of the following adapter kits:

• BK195 for 3⁄4″ x 16 thread
• BK196 for 13⁄16″ x 16 thread
• BK197 for 18 mm x 1.5 mm thread
• BK198 for 20 mm x 1.5 mm thread

Also, for ease of installation in some applications, optional 90-degree fittings (BK199 and BK200) can be mounted on the filter adapter collar. These parts are also sold separately.

The AMSOIL Marine Dual Remote Filtration System represents the cutting edge of filtration technology, another example of the AMSOIL commitment to providing quality innovations that benefit consumers everywhere.

3,000 mile oil changes don’t apply anymore

This press release just came out from Royal Purple, another synthetic. These points are all valid, but of course we would recommend Amsoil. Amsoil has been doing this since 1972, and Royal Purple was founded in 1986. If you want to compare the oils, check our article on motorcycle oil which includes detailed and exhaustive graphs. The points made about extended drain intervals, quality filters, and “oil life monitors” are all good information.

GRANBURY, TX, June 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ — We’ve all heard the saying “Change your oil every 3,000 miles.” Well times have changed, and the old “3,000 mile” adage may or may not apply to your vehicle. The 3000-mile oil change is a conservative approach to maintaining your vehicle that, according to General Motors, dates back to 1968. It’s also an oil change interval that the automotive oil change industry continues to encourage.

Automobile manufacturers cite modern oil and engine technology as the reasons why oil change intervals can be extended. Numerous factors come into play when determining the oil change interval you should follow including: the vehicle you drive and how you drive it, oil and filter selection, and if your vehicle has an oil life monitoring system.

Every manufacturer establishes recommended oil change intervals for each model they produce. Oil change intervals are now 5,000 – 7,500 miles for many new cars. If you’re not sure where your vehicle fits in this range, consult your owner’s manual or ask your oil change professional at your next service appointment.

Understanding the Oil Life Monitoring System
A relatively new technology impacting oil change intervals is the oil life monitor. Many people are unaware that oil life monitor systems are simply computer software algorithms that determine when to change oil based on engine operating conditions. An oil life monitor considers mileage, speed and idling time to calculate when you should change the oil. A better name for the oil life monitor would be “oil life predictor.”

There is no actual oil condition sensor. No chemical analysis of the oil takes. In fact, you could drain the oil and replace it with any fluid and the oil change monitor would have no way of knowing it. Additionally, the oil life monitor does not check how well your oil filter is filtering the oil in your system. Contaminated oil is just as, if not more, harmful than oxidized motor oil. The bottom line is that an oil life monitor is a useful tool that should be used in conjunction with common sense and good judgment. Whether or not you have an oil change monitor, if your car is still under warranty, continue to follow the car manufacturer’s recommended oil change intervals.

Extend Your Oil Changes by Upgrading to Synthetic
If your car is no longer under warranty, you can extend your oil change intervals by upgrading to synthetic motor oil. This will reduce the number of oil changes saving you time and money, and reducing the amount of oil purchased and disposed.

There are a number of quality synthetic motor oils available to choose from. Most lubricant manufacturers will give a recommended number of miles you can drive between oil changes under normal conditions. The number of miles you can allow between oil changes will depend on the way you drive and the oxidation stability (useful oil life) of the motor oil.

Oxidation stability is measured by the ASTM’s rigorous Thin Film Oxidation Uptake Test (TFOUT). The test is so severe that it lasts 1300 minutes. Conventional motor oils typically last less than 300 minutes. Synthetic motor oils typically last less than 500 minutes. One high performance synthetic motor oil, Royal Purple has been shown to outlast the duration of the test. Royal Purple motor oils are recommended to extend oil changes intervals to 12,000 miles under normal driving conditions. It has also been shown to improve fuel economy and performance, while reducing emissions. You can find out more at www.royalpurple.com or ask your oil change professional at any quick change place that carries Royal Purple.

Upgrade Your Oil Filter with Your Upgraded Oil
If you elect to upgrade your motor oil, you should also upgrade your oil filter. Low quality filters are often made with the 3,000 mile interval in mind and may go into ‘bypass’ mode shortly thereafter. There are premium oil filters on the market from manufacturers such as Royal Purple, Wix, Purolator and K&N. Check the recommended filter change interval on any filter your purchase (each filter will be rated for a different mile interval) or ask your oil change professional during your next service.

Donaldson P-Series Heavy Duty Filters

Donaldson Filters
AMSOIL is now introducing the P-Series of Donaldson filters to complement the Endurance line. The expanded offering of filtration products features many applications that differ from, and several that coincide with the Endurance line. Donaldson P-Series filters offer premium filtration at a competitive price. AMSOIL now stocks all of Donaldson’s most popular filter applications.

Donaldson P Series | Premium Filters

Donaldson P-Series Lube Filters (order)
Increased engine emissions control and tighter tolerances within the engine require high efficiency filters.

Donaldson P-Series filters are constructed with full synthetic or synthetic blend media for high efficiency. The media is embedded deeper into the sealing plastisol than conventional filters, allowing better sealing longevity. The lube filter can is constructed of heavy gauge steel, with many models having domed tops that provide superior pressure fatigue performance. The center tube allows more flow without compromising strength, and the louvered design eliminates tearing during pleat movement. The can and base plate are I assembled using a fully tucked seam, roll-formed threads, a nitrile sealing gasket and a compression spring holding all the components in place within the filter.

Donaldson P-Series Air Filters (order)
Donaldson air filter media is made up of specially formulated fibers designed to trap contaminants such as dust, dirt and soot before they reach the engine. The media is pleated to maximize the filter surface area and placed between rigid liners to provide stability and. support. A high quality filter seal is applied or built-in to the open end of the filter to prevent dirty air from bypassing the filter. Donaldson has developed an extensive range of air filter media to provide the best engine protection no matter what the operating conditions. For example, using the same particle size contaminant, for every eight grams of dirt passed through a Luber-finer filter, the Donaldson filter passed only two grams.

Coolant Filters (order)
Donaldson coolant filters are designed to maintain the proper chemical balance and reduce contaminants in the engine cooling system. AMSOIL offers a complete line of Donaldson filters with supplemental coolant additive (SCA) technology for the majority of heavy-duty diesel engines service requirements. SCA’s are chemicals in the filter that are released into the coolant as it passes through. SCA’s help resist corrosion and cavitation in the engine (Note: Although there is no need for SCA’s when using AMSOIL Antifreeze & Coolant, the use of Donaldson Heavy Duty Filters along with AMSOIL Antifreeze & Coolant will not affect performance.). The heavy-duty construction works in a wide variety of operating environments. Donaldson filters feature heavy-duty thread plates, seals designed for extreme cold and heat, durable filter media and a unique center tube that increases flow and adds structural strength.

Fuel Filters (order)
Today’s engines are built to more stringent specifications and finer tolerances. Fuel systems, pumps and injectors require cleaner fuel to achieve better combustion and lower emissions. AMSOIL carries Donaldson’s full line of replacement fuel filters, featuring the latest advances in filter media that makes the difference between engine power and engine problems.

Hydraulic Filters (order)
Donaldson also develops, manufactures, and markets a full line of hydraulic filters for the protection of machinery and components in hundreds of applications—in the factory and on heavy duty-mobile equipment. In fact, Donaldson is considered the world leader in hydraulic filtration.

AMSOIL offers the Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Diesel Air Intake series with revolutionary Variable Induction Technology.

Intake System Design
Air intake systems serve several important functions. Primarily, they are used to increase the amount of oxygen available to the engine and reduce air turbulence increasing power. Because cool air has greater density than hot air, aftermarket intakes improve combustion of fuel by capturing cooler air from outside the engine compartment. In addition, an aftermarket air intake system increases the diameter of the intake as compared to the original equipment, increasing air flow into the engine and making more oxygen available during the combustion process.

By designing a more direct route for the air entering the engine, as well as a smoother interior surface for the intake, air resistance is reduced and air flow is increased. To protect the engine from damaging dirt, cold air intakes are also equipped with filters. Air intake systems can improve gas mileage and increase performance, and they also add a sleek, custom look to a vehicle.
